John Rants, band director at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, was named the Seattle Symphony Music Educator of the Year. The school board planned a special recognition of the teacher at the June 21 board meeting.
Rants was selected from among hundreds of music educators in the region. The award was presented at a special celebration of the Seattle Symphony held May 8.
The local teacher serves as president of the Mt. Pilchuck Music Educators Association. Under his guidance, the high school band has appeared in dozens of regional events and parades, and has won over twenty awards in competitions over the past five years.
