The Marysville Kiwanis and Soroptimist clubs announced their selections for May and June students of the month at a recent meeting. The students are eligible for year-end scholarship awards presented by Soroptimists at the women's service club annual recognition breakfast, set for June 8.

The Marysville-Pilchuck High School seniors selected as May's recipients are Cosette Troxel and Samuel Christopher.

Cosette attends the International School of Communications at M-PHS. With a 4.0 average, Cosette is valedictorian for her graduating class and has received an Award of Excellence from BYU Idaho, where she will continue her education.

She has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years, and is an accomplished pianist who volunteers her musical talents at church and for other community service events.

Cosette is the daughter of Dana and Candace Troxel of Marysville.

Samuel is a senior at M-P's Pathways of Choice school, where he maintains a 3.5 GPA or better while taking Advanced Placement courses and being involved in leadership activities.

A member of ASB, the Volunteer Club and RAKE Club (Random Acts of Kindness Everyday), Samuel is also a Bible study leader and a mentor for M-P freshmen. Samuel enjoys interacting with younger kids, and serves as a role model for 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders at his church and a weekly kids' club. He'll be a camp counselor for 8th graders at Warm Beach Christian Camp this summer.

The son of Bruce and Teri Christopher of Marysville, Samuel is the youngest of four boys.

June's students of the month are Hannah Kreutz and Steven Utt. Both are seniors in M-P's Pathways of Choice.

Hannah, the daughter of Mark and Phylis Kreutz, is a student athlete who lettered in volleyball and track and field while earning a GPA of over 3.9. She has been actively involved in school activities including RAKE and YGLTP (You Gotta Love This Place) throughout her high school career and is a member of the National Honor Society.

She was nominated for Homecoming Princess as a freshman and a senior, and has been a freshman mentor for the past three years.

As an ASB leader, Hannah has helped plan and implement the Special Needs Prom, Oktoberfest, Homecoming Coronations and assorted school assemblies. Her community involvement includes volunteer efforts for Miracle on State Street and active participation with her church.

Steven Utt will graduate from M-P with a 3.6 GPA and one year of college through Running Start behind him. He received the WIAA Distinguished Scholar Award in 2009.

Steven has also earned ten varsity athletic letter awards during high school in cross-country, track and field, swimming and diving, and wrestling. Because of his leadership on the field, his teammates selected Steven as "Most Inspirational" two years in a row, and he was a Wesco All-League selection for cross-country in 2009.

Steven is also a musician and a member of the M-PHS Competitive Field Show Band, the pep band, marching band, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, and chamber orchestra. A trumpet player, Steven serves as section leader and principal player, and was selected for the Northwest High School Honor Band in 2010.

Steven's parents, Larry and Renee Utt, live in Marysville.

Congratulations to these outstanding students.
