Ryan Henderson has been serving as interim principal at Lakewood Elementary School since November. This month, the job became a permanent position.

Dr. Dennis Haddock, superintendent of the Lakewood School District, announced February 19 that Henderson had accepted the principal position at the elementary school.

"Competition for this position was steep," said district spokesperson Robin Barker, and Henderson was "clearly the top candidate."

The school board conducted candidate interviews and hosted a community forum to introduce candidates to parents and interested residents.

Henderson graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 2001. He received his master's degree in educational administration from Western Washington University in 2009.

Prior to serving as the school's interim principal, Henderson was an assistant to two principals in the Lake Stevens School District, where he had worked since 2006. He has also worked as a literacy coach and taught kindergarten, third and fourth grades.

"Mr. Henderson has extensive knowledge and background in a variety of curricular and instructional areas associated with elementary education, and we are looking forward to his continued association in Lakewood," said Barker.
