In just six days, 8th graders at Arlington's Post Middle School collected nearly 2,000 pounds of food and over $2,000 in cash for the community food bank.

The school's leadership class organized the all-school food drive, urging the whole school to participate in the effort to help Arlington families in need.

Tammy-Allen-Greeves, Post's financial secretary, spent an average of 3 hours a day counting pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters brought in by many students who chose to empty their piggy banks and give to people in need. Many generous staff members participated as well, and several teachers matched whatever their students donated as an added incentive. The total cash donations came to $2093.78.

Mrs. Decker's 6th grade class raised the most total of money and food items in the school.

The students and staff members also recognized the volunteers at the Arlington Food Bank for their hard work, noting that "without their generosity, Arlington would not have a place for families in our community to go for help."
