Snohomish County legislators will answer questions about education funding and other related issues at a forum Thursday, September 24, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Arts & Technology High School Commons, 7204-27th Ave. NE in Marysville.

The event is hosted by the Marysville School District.

"Marysville and other districts in Washington are facing some very serious challenges in the ability to adequately prepare our students for the future, and many of those challenges can best be addressed in Olympia," said MSD board president Michael Kundu.

The local school district suffered significant reductions in funding from the state for the current school year, resulting in $6.5 million in cuts for programs, supplies and staff.

So far, eight local legislators have indicated they would attend the forum. Senator Rosemary McAuliffe, and Representatives Dave Quall, Dan Kristiansen, Mike Hope, Kirk Pearson, Mike Sells, Norma Smith and Hans Dunshee will be on hand to answer questions and hear public comments.

"The Marysville School District deeply values government openness, transparency, and accountability," added Kundu. "This is an excellent opportunity to share those values with the lawmakers who frame the environment for public education in our state."
