Arlington High School jazz band musicians invite fans to shine up their dancing shoes for the annual Swing into Spring Dessert Dance, set for May 8 and 9 in the AHS Commons, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd.

For the special annual event, the Commons is transformed into the "Easy G Jazz Club," featuring On Hold and Jazz II student groups, directed by John Grabowski. Enjoy popular standards by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Glenn Miller and many more favorites.

The cost is $14 per person, which includes music, dancing, desserts and beverages. While tickets will be available at the door, enthusiasts are encouraged to reserve table seating in advance at Flowers By George, 335 N. Olympic Ave., 360-435-5789, or at Arlington Copy, Mail and More, 526 N. West Ave., 360-435-7691, both in downtown Arlington.

Swing Into Spring is a major fundraiser for the AHS bands, providing funds for the purchase of instruments, band trips and music scholarships for band students. As a part of the fundraising effort, a beautiful handmade quilt will be the prize in a raffle during Saturday's program. Raffle tickets can be purchased from band students and at the door for $1, and the winner is not required to be present for the drawing.

Music director John Grabowski goes above and beyond the call of duty to teach these jazz students. On Hold, an audition-only group, meets early every weekday morning before school starts at 7 a.m. Jazz II is a volunteer group that meets for two hours every Tuesday night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The "Easy G Jazz Club" doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the dessert dance starting at 7 p.m. For more information, call AHS at 360-618-6300.

So dust off those dancing shoes, and come enjoy an evening of music and fun at the only jazz club in Arlington.
