In November 2000 voters overwhelmingly approved Initiative 728, which provides additional money to help students reach new state learning standards and dedicates some state revenues to a Student Achievement Fund. The Lakewood School District will hold a public hearing on use of the funds on Wednesday, April 29, at 6 p.m. at the Technology Training Lab at English Crossing Elementary School, 16728-16th Dr. NE, Marysville.

Under I-728, school districts are authorized to use funds to provide extended learning opportunities, additional professional development for educators, and early assistance for children who need pre-kindergarten support. The money can also be used to reduce class size or to fund building improvements relating to class-size reductions.

Immediately following the public comment period, the School Board will hold a study session at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend both sessions and to provide comments if desired.
