The Lakewood School District will hold a community meeting on April 16 at 6 p.m. in the LHS Theater to review the 2009-10 district budget.

A budget task force, divided into six budget work groups (K-12 Buildings, Special Programs, Teacher and Learning, Athletics/Activities, Transportation/Food Services/Facilities, and District Leadership and Services) has been working on developing necessary cost-saving measures for next school year and will conclude their work on March 27. The recommendations made from these work groups will be reviewed and prioritized by the Budget Review Committee.

The Lakewood district's budget projections indicate the need to cut expenses for next school year. Factors such as increased costs due to inflation, a flat and slightly declining enrollment and an assumed reduction in state allocation will require the district to target an overall reduction of $1 million to the 2009-10 general fund budget, according to superintendent Dennis Haddock.
