Student artists from the Marysville and Arlington school districts won Gold and Silver Key Awards from the Snohomish County Arts Council in its recent Scholastic Art Awards of 2009.

The impressive works were on display at the Arts Council's gallery at the Monte Cristo Hotel in Everett from February 16-23, with the awards ceremony held at the Historic Everett Theatre on February 17.

The 14 students whose work won Gold Key Awards will have their pieces entered into the national scholarship competition in New York next month.

Nancy Bell, the council's education coordinator, said, "The objective [of the Scholastic Art Awards] is to foster the confidence of young artists and give them the opportunity to be recognized for their creative achievements by the world at large."
