Arlington High School singer Erica Ewell commanded the stage as the menacing Captain Hook in the high school's production of "Peter Pan" at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center last November.

Last month, she dazzled a different audience as she claimed the Outstanding Soloist Award as a member of the school's Jazzmine musical group at the Pacific Vocal Jazz Festival.

The school choir was voted the Most Inspirational Group at the annual competition, held at Bellevue Community College this year.

Jazzmine is now preparing for two weekends of shows at the Byrnes Center. Dubbed "A Blast to the Past," the music will propel listeners from the Roaring '20s through the Big Band Era, early rock 'n roll and even a little disco. The group will continue with presentations of music through present-day favorites.

The show will be presented beginning at 7:30 p.m. February 27, 28, March 6 and 7, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, March 8.

Patrons who come up to 45 minutes early will enjoy pre-show entertainment by local musicians including Becky Foster with pianist Herb Hamilton, who will perform March 6.

Tickets to the Jazzmine show are available online at www.byrnesperformingarts.org, for $15 for adults, $10 for children. Tickets can also be purchased in person at Flowers by George and Copy Mail & More in downtown Arlington.
