Totem students witness presidential history

Forty-one students from Totem Middle School and 13 adults traveled to Washington, D.C., to witness history by attending the January 20 presidential inauguration. While in the nation’s capital, the 7th and 8th graders also visited Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Museums, the Library of Congress, National Archives, and the Supreme Court.

Following their whirlwind tour of the capital, the group spent some time in New York, attending a Broadway show and visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Students and parents have been raising funds for the tour since last spring. The purpose of the trip was to introduce students to the political process and reinforce the purposes, organization and function of government, laws and the political system while deepening their understanding of local, national and international issues.
