Credit union offers scholarship program

The 2009 Education Exchange College Grant Program sponsored by MountainCrest Credit Union is available to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college. A total of 34 grants will be awarded, with four recipients receiving $5,000 and thirty eligible for $1,000 grants.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a graduating high school senior at the time of application, be a U.S. citizen, and be able to provide written acceptance to an accredited 4-year college by May 15, 2009. The selection criteria include scholastic achievement, character and leadership, essay responses and financial need.

The initial application must be accompanied by a copy of high school transcripts with GPA, honors/AP classes, and SAT or ACT scores noted, and two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher or school administrator and one from a personal reference.

Additional requirements for final judging include a copy of high school transcripts with school seal with SAT or ACT scores, a copy of page 1 and 2 of parents' 2008 federal income tax return and an acceptance letter from an accredited 4-year college by May 15, 2009.

Applications are individually numbered so participants require an original copy. To receive an application, visit your local MountainCrest branch. Submissions must be postmarked by March 16, 2009.
