Over the weekend of April 13 to 15, Washington State Department of Transportation crews closed the old Ebey Slough bridge to reroute traffic onto the new stationary 4-lane bridge. The 80-year-old swing-span drawbridge had become inadequate for the amount of traffic that crossed it, and the $43 million bridge, with bike lanes and pedestrian access, is being phased in to replace it. Two lanes of the new bridge opened Monday morning, with work continuing on the other two lanes. Demolition will begin soon on the old bridge.
