Man arrested in kidnapping case cleared

Arlington Police detectives are continuing to investigate an attempted kidnapping that was reported on Sunday, Jan. 8, after their initial suspect was cleared in the case.

 

Arlington Police received a 911 call reporting an attempted kidnapping in the 18300 block of 31st Av. NE on Sunday. A 12-year-old girl reported that a man grabbed her and attempted to pull her into a wooded area. The victim reported that she was able to get away from the assailant by kicking him. She ran home and police were called.

 

After a K-9 track and police area search, a suspect was not found.

 

Fredrick A. Thurmond, a convicted sex offender living in the area, was arrested for investigation of kidnapping and assault, but subsequent information has ruled the man out as a possible suspect in the case.

 

Thurmond is expected to remain in custody at the Snohomish County Jail on a Department of Corrections parole violation.

 

Arlington Police have increased patrols in the area, and officers are reminding residents to continue to remain vigilant when they are walking after dark.
