The good news is, everyone is just fine, although still a little shaken up by the experience.

Donna Wright Marysville City Councilmember Donna Wright and her husband Gary were on vacation in Cabo San Lucas earlier this month, enjoying the warmth and sunshine along the coast of the Sea of Cortez, when Mrs. Wright decided to have an adventure.

She had seen others parasailing above the calm waters and thought it would be fun.

"You basically have a giant kite strapped to you, then you're pulled through the water by a speedboat until the wind picks you up," she explained.

The councilwoman was enjoying an expansive view of Cabo from the sky until the boat's engine died, and she came crashing down to earth. Fortunately, she was still over water, but the landing was nonetheless traumatic.

"We later read an article about a tourist who died when the same thing happened," said Wright. "Luckily, I fell into the water instead of on a pile of rocks."

In fact, said Wright, some hotels and cruise ships in the tourist destination are eliminating the option of parasailing packages, due to the risk.

"I guess I should have know better," she laughed. "A 70-year-old woman who just had heart surgery probably shouldn't have tried that in the first place."
