The Housing Authority of Snohomish County is the recipient of more than $450,000 in new funding for its Housing Rehabilitation Program, which provides home improvement loans to eligible homeowners living within the county.

For more than 20 years, the Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program has been helping Snohomish County families tackle necessary, but often unaffordable, repairs to their homes. Typically the program helps with most any issue that might compromise the integrity of a home. Leaking roofs, failing siding, and water damage are just a few examples of items that can be addressed with the funding.

Qualified applicants have an opportunity to use low interest loans, with interest rates from zero to three percent, to improve their homes. Deferred loans are also available for qualifying seniors and disabled households.

Program staff members meet with homeowners to assess their homes' needs, help qualify them, and provide assistance through the entire construction process to assure that all the work is done properly.

While the economy continues to be a concern, especially for modest income earners, homeowners who have work done with the program have discovered the loan funds go further now than just a few years ago.

To be eligible, households must be owner occupants, live in Snohomish County outside the city limits of Everett and Bothell, and fall below maximum income guidelines. Depending on the size of the household, income limits range from $44,800 to $69,000 per year.
