Kay Smith has served as a fire commissioner with Marysville's Fire District #12 since 1994, and her recent retirement creates a vacuum in the district's leadership. Fire Chief Greg Corn is accepting applications to fill the remainder of Smith's six-year term.

Smith, who was required to step down when her home was annexed into the city's boundaries, was honored for her years of service at the fire district's February 17 Board of Directors meeting.

Applicants for the commissioner position must be registered voters residing within Fire District #12 boundaries. The three citizen commissioners serve alongside three Marysville City Councilmembers on the district's Board of Directors.

Qualified individuals should submit letters of interest to Fire Chief Greg Corn at 1094 Cedar Avenue, Marysville 98270, or by e-mail to gcorn@marysvillewa.gov. Closing date for applications is March 25, 2010.
