The Arlington City Council and city staffers have developed a list of 13 issues that will take priority in allocating resources over the next year.
At a recent full-day work session, elected officials and department heads identified the city's top needs. Mayor Margaret Larson called the list a "road map" for the city's future.
The priority list includes:
A focus on fire department facility needs, including room for administration, repairs for station 46, and a permanent location for station 48;
Emergency management planning;
Development of the airport business park and other activities and incentives to promote economic development;
Traffic improvements along major corridors on 172nd Street NE, 67th Avenue NE, Smokey Point Boulevard, and at Smokey Point and Island Crossing exits;
Building a coalition with other cities to facilitate state and federal lobbying while strengthening partnerships with the Stillaguamish Tribe;
Completion of Centennial Trail and development of other city trails and pathways;
Expansion of the Urban Growth Area and completion of west Arlington and riverfront planning;
Focusing on fiscal responsibility while maintaining parks, replacing necessary equipment, reducing city costs and streamlining staffing;
Continued work on Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) program;
Enhancing the city's volunteer service program;
Planning for future sports and recreation needs;
Adding restrooms at Legion Park in downtown Arlington;
Exploring levies for fire and emergency medical services.
