At the October statewide convention of the
Washington Newspaper Publishing Association, the staff of
North County Outlook was recognized with two awards of excellence.
This was the first year the Outlook was eligible to compete in the Better Newspaper Contest.
Categories for the competition are determined by circulation, and
North County Outlook's distribution puts the newspaper into Category IV, competing against some of the largest dailies and weekly papers in the state.

Despite the stiff competition, the special football tabloid, "100 Years of Marysville Football," won first place for Best Special Section - Topical/Non-Tourism, with recognition for editor/writer Beckye Randall, sales manager Sue Stevenson and graphic designer Carrie Harris.
In addition, Beckye Randall earned a second place award for Best Story on the Arts for the August 2008 article,
"Tulalip artists fill new hotel with tribal lore."
