Marysville fire crews responded to a fire at Cascade Elementary School in the 5200 block of 100th Street NE in the early morning hours of Monday, August 31. The fire was discovered in a classroom portable.

Firefighters were initially kept away from the building because of fallen power lines. Unable to attack the fire through the door, the firefighters had to cut openings in the wall of the portable in order to enter the structure and extinguish the fire.

The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes and no injuries were reported.

The loss is estimated at approximately $250,000 and the Marysville School District is working on plans to replace the portable classroom.

More than 13 firefighters battled the blaze with mutual aid provided by Snohomish Fire District 22 (Getchell).

The incident is being investigated by Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office.
