Where can you turn when you do not have health insurance, and your baby has an ear infection? Visit Community Health Center of Snohomish County's web site (www.chcsno.org) to find for a primary care provider who will be able to help.
For over 25 years, Community Health Center (CHC) has played a central role in the health and wellbeing of low-income and uninsured residents of Snohomish County.
"With wide-spread hiring cutbacks, increasing unemployment and the loss of health insurance benefits, CHC's focus on providing access to health care is even more essential in keeping our community healthy," noted Ken Green, executive director of Community Health Center.
A major step toward improving access is a new search tool on the CHC web site. Visitors to the site can search for the most appropriate health services through three different cross-referenced links.
From the Health Services tab, visitors can choose from 17 different services offered at CHC. They can then choose the most convenient location and view the doctors who provide that particular service at that location.
Alternatively, a visitor can click on the Locations tab. Here they will find a map with links and driving directions to each location.
The Doctors tab on the home page allows the viewer to search for a provider by name, specialty, location, gender and language spoken.
With these choices made, a telephone call to the CHC Call Center (425-789-3789) will quickly result in an appointment, often the same day.
Once at the clinic, a staff member can help patients determine their eligibility for Medicaid, Medicaid Healthy Options or a discounted fee program based on income and family size.
"During these challenging times, no one should have to go without health care," said LuAnne Kay, the center's public relations director. "No one should have to hear their baby crying with ear pain, or stop taking their blood pressure medication in order to buy food. Community Health Center of Snohomish County provides access to health care for everyone, and the upgraded Web site makes this even easier."
