The manager at the McDonald's restaurant at 3529-172nd St. NE in Smokey Point reported an attempted robbery on Tuesday, August 4 at around 6:30 p.m.
The woman reported that as she was leaving the store, she was approached by a Hispanic male who opened her car door and demanded the day's deposit from the restaurant. The manager told the man she didn't have any money from the store, but he brandished a small, dark-colored revolver and continued to demand the deposit.
Finally, the suspect reached into the vehicle, grabbed the woman's purse and began to search it. Finding no money, he threw the purse back into her vehicle and ran eastbound away from the McDonald's.
Arlington Police, Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, Marysville Police and Everett Police K9 searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 20 to 30 years old, 5'10" tall, approximately 180 pounds, with dark hair and eyes. The suspect was wearing an off-white T-shirt with a dark design on the front and blue jeans. The victim also reported the male suspect was wearing something that looked like a white T-shirt on his head and that he spoke with an accent, possibly Spanish.
Detectives recovered a white ski-type mask from the scene, which they believe was used in the attempted robbery.
The Smokey Point McDonald's restaurant immediately changed its deposit practices after the incident, and will now use an armed money courier service to transport all deposits.
