Families facing foreclosure are often confused about their options and unsure about where to turn for help. In an effort to help more people stay in their homes, several community agencies have planned a free foreclosure prevention workshop on Thursday, July 23, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cascade High School in Everett.
Melanie Gillespie, executive director of Home for Good, said, "Lender servicers from loss mitigation departments will actually be on site for the day and able to create work-outs and modifications on the spot for people. Many financial counselors will also be available to help folks as well."
Those attending the workshop can get answers from government agencies, lenders and non-profit organizations concerning refinancing or loan modifications and foreclosure prevention programs. Organizers also want to help people avoid scams by ensuring they understand the true foreclosure process. No fee-based services will be offered at the event.
People interested in attending should make an appointment to register, for free, by calling the Urban League at 1-800-368-1455. Participants are encouraged to bring documentation, including photo IDs, home closing documents, last two years' W-2s and tax returns, two months of pay stubs and bank statements, a monthly mortgage statement or bank notices, and information about any extenuating financial circumstances.
The free workshop is sponsored by Snohomish County, Federal Reserve Bank, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, Washington State Department of Financial Institutions, Parkview Services and Home for Good.
