Due to high fire danger and the expectation of continued hot and dry weather conditions, a modified outdoor burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Snohomish County went into effect July 8. The restriction will continue until further notice.
The decision bans outdoor burning except for recreational fires, less than three feet in diameter and two feet high, which are for cooking and pleasure only. Recreational fires must be contained within a fire pit that has been cleared of all combustible material within a 10-foot radius, must be monitored at all times and must have a water source-a hose or five-gallon bucket of water-readily available.
County spokesperson Christopher Schwarzen advised citizens within the boundaries of an incorporated city or town to check with local fire departments for current burn ban information.
All outdoor burn permits, including permits issued by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency for agricultural burning, are suspended until the modified burn ban is lifted. The ban is expected to remain in effect until there is a sustained period of rainfall and the fire risk lessens.
