To help keep the cost of solid waste pickup as low as possible, the City of Marysville is making some changes to its garbage service routes and schedules.
The city recently conducted a study of daily curbside residential pick-up routes to look for ways to increase efficiency. The study revealed that modifying some routes could save on fuel costs, reduce vehicle emissions, and help mitigate future maintenance costs on the trucks, said Terry Hawley, Operations Manager.
As a result, scheduled pickup days for some residents will change. Taped banner notices will be sealed on the lids of customers' cans if their pickup day is slated to change. Customers will be notified between June 15 and 26 on the collection day prior to the change.
The new routes and pickup day will go into effect on July 1, 2009.
Waste Management NW is working closely with the city to ensure that curbside recycling and yard waste pickup are on the same day as regular garbage so residents won't be required to put cans out for service on different days.
Although city officials regret the temporary inconvenience, the cost savings are deemed substantial enough to justify the rescheduling. If the switch in days causes a container to be missed, solid waste trucks will pick up the missed can at no extra charge.
