Marysville rowers succeed at regatta

Marysville was well represented at the Northwest Junior Regional Championships Regatta on May 15-17 in Vancouver, Washington. Crews representing Everett Rowing Association and North Cascades Crew attended the Nationals-qualifying event.
North Cascades Crew, a small first-year club, achieved remarkable results by sending all but one rower to the finals at this year's regional event. Everett Rowing Association maintained its recent dominance in the larger 8-seat boats and qualified several boats to participate in the national championships in Cincinnati, Ohio.
MPHS senior and NCC club president Daniel Morgan qualified for the finals in both the Men's Varsity Single and Men's Varsity Double. Dan has been rowing all through high school, and achieved a silver medal at last year's national championships in the Men's Varsity Quad.
Graylon Thomas, a novice rower and MPHS senior, qualified for the finals in the Novice Men's Quad, with Kyle Morrenzin, a 7th grader at Marysville Middle School, serving as coxswain for that boat. Graylon also took home a silver medal in the Men's Novice Double.
The first place Lightweight Varsity Men's Eight boasted two Marysville youths, MPHS senior Gabe Gribler and Archbishop Murphy's Cole Borseth. The Women's Varsity Eight also qualified for Nationals by securing second place in the final, with MPHS senior Josie Lallemand aboard.
In addition to Marysville rowers, the North Cascades Crew's novice rowing coach is also a MPHS senior, Andrea Rasmussen. She coached the first-year rowers to a successful start in the NCC program, with all but one novice appearing in the regatta's event finals.
The NCC Junior summer program starts June 22 with a Learn to Row Camp and continued rowing for experienced rowers. Adult Learn to Row classes, recreational and competitive group rowing are also available. For more information, go to www.northcascadescrew.com or call 1-888-ROW-NCC1.
