Candidates for local political offices must file their intent to run by Friday, June 5, at 5 p.m. Electronic registration will take place in the Snohomish County Auditor's Office, 1st floor of the Administration West Building, 3000 Rockefeller Avenue in Everett.

"There are 175 local offices up for election this year," said County Auditor Carolyn Weikel. "This is an excellent opportunity for qualified citizens to serve locally and make an impact on our communities."

Offices up for election throughout Snohomish County include three county council positions, city mayor and council slots, school board directors, and fire, water, sewer and port commissioner jobs.

This year candidates will be filing electronically in the Auditor's Office, and will be asked to provide an e-mail address.

"We are excited about our electronic filing process," said Weikel. "This process will provide improved services to our candidates such as an e-mail notification when another person files for the same position. The process also eliminates duplicate data entry by elections staff into multiple systems and allows for more accountability with our limited resources."

Prospective candidates are encouraged to visit the Snohomish County Elections Web site to view a list of offices up for election, applicable candidate filing fees, and descriptions of qualifications for offices. Visit www.snoco.org and type "election" in the keyword search box in the middle of the page.
