Robert Sullenberger was sworn in as Arlington's new police chief on May 4. With his wife Carol by his side, and many representatives from various police departments around the region, Sullenberger was welcomed by the community to help serve and protect them.

Chief Sullenberger comes from Boulder, Colorado, where he has worked on the Boulder Police Department for his entire 29 years on the force, serving for five of those years as Deputy Chief of Police for Operations.

He and his wife are excited to call Arlington their new home. "We are both very pleased to be here. This is a whole new adventure for us and a fresh, new start," said Sullenberger.

Sullenberger was one of 38 applicants for the position and was among the six finalists who underwent a rigorous hiring process that included multiple interviews by council members, community members, city staff and Mayor Margaret Larson.

With the help of the City, Sullenberger hopes to implement more volunteer opportunities for the police department and local citizens.

Commander Terry Quintrall, who served as the interim police chief for the past ten months while the city conducted its search, was awarded an honorary plaque thanking him for "stepping up to the plate" by city administrator Allen Johnson and the mayor at the May 4 ceremony. Quintrall was also praised for his calm and poised demeanor and strong leadership abilities.
