67th Ave. in Arlington

The City of Arlington is putting federal dollars to work by beginning a land survey for Phase III of the 67th Avenue NE reconstruction plan.

More than $1.3 million in federal money will help the city complete the final phase of the 67th Avenue improvements, which are planned to include a new roadway surface, curb, gutter and sidewalk additions, and a two-way center turn lane in some areas.

The project also targets a continuation of the Centennial Trail from 204th St. NE to Lebanon Street, although planners are unsure what will be required for the trail.

"It's definitely one of our challenges," said public works coordinator Cristy Brubaker. "With the railroad tracks on one side and a steep bank on the other, this will require further study."

The city has contracted with HDR Engineering of Bellevue to collect data over the next few weeks and help determine existing roadway rights of way and any constraints.

"The area is a mix of industrial, retail and even some residential," said Brubaker, "and we want to minimize impacts to businesses and homeowners during and after the project."

The city plans to keep the public informed by distributing fliers and door-hangers in the area, holding public meetings and coordinating individually with property owners.
