The First Nations snowboard team of the Tulalip Boys and Girls Club fared well in the team's first international competition, held at Cypress Mountain in Vancouver, B.C.
The RBC Boardercross Competition, a freestyle snowboard event, was held over three days on the slopes that will host the 2010 Olympic Games snowboarding and freestyle skiing events.
Eight local athletes participated in the competition, and all placed in the top 14 finishers. Moses Williams took the silver medal in the 15-up category, and Trevor Fryberg earned the bronze medal in the 10- to 11-year-old group.
"It was amazing to see the kids compete against their Canadian friends," said coach Saundra Wagner. "It won't be long until a Tulalip rider is on the podium in the Olympic Games."
The First Nations Snowboard Team is an international team of athletes training to compete in the Olympic Games. FNST has a membership of over 150 athletes in British Columbia, and Tulalip was selected as the first U.S. team to represent the Nations.
