Local attorney Steve Peiffle was named the Citizen of the Year by the Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce at the business group's annual auction on February 28.

Peiffle, the attorney for the City of Arlington and a partner in the law firm of Bailey, Duskin, Peiffle and Canfield, PS, served on the chamber's Board of Directors for nearly 25 years, leading the efforts to merge the two separate chambers into one in 2006.

Board members are not eligible to receive the Citizen of the Year award, and Peiffle jokingly told the audience that was why he stepped down from his position on the board in 2007.

George Boulton, owner of Flowers by George and a former Citizen of the Year, cited Peiffle's contributions to the Arlington community as he presented the award.

Among his volunteer activities, Peiffle serves on the North Snohomish County regional board of Housing Hope, a nonprofit agency focusing on homelessness issues. The local attorney has also been an executive board member of the Citizens Committee for Arlington Schools, and is the past president of the Arlington Kiwanis Club and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Peiffle was named a Super Lawyer by Washington Law & Politics magazine in 2008.

Peiffle's most recent accomplishment was the city's successful annexation of the Island Crossing area, following years of appeals and litigation.

The annual fundraising auction brought in more than $10,000 for the Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce.
