Marysville fire announces promotions

With the opening of the new Sunnyside Fire Station, the Marysville Fire District had the opportunity to announce several promotions within the department.

Four firefighters were promoted to the rank of Captain: Jeff Bilow, Todd Furness, Chad Hall and Rick Jesus.

Jeff Bilow started with Marysville in 1993 as a part-time firefighter, becoming a full-time employee in 1997. A member of the Hazardous Materials Team, Bilow is the president of the Marysville Fire District Foundation. He has served as the vice president of the Marysville Professional Firefighters Local 3219 for the last six years and was recently elected to serve as the union's secretary-treasurer.

Todd Furness began working with Marysville firefighters in 1997 as a volunteer. He was hired full-time in 2002. Furness has a degree in Fire Science and is on the Technical Rescue Team.

Chad Hale has been with the district for 18 years, the first three years as a volunteer. He was on the Technical Rescue Team for four years. Hale has earned Fire Command Associates of Arts degrees in Administration and Fire Science. He was selected to be an instructor at the Washington State Fire Academy last year.

Rick Jesus has been with the Marysville Fire District for ten years, full time since 2002. He has been a paramedic since 2005.

Jeff Cole has been promoted to Battalion Chief. Cole became a part-time Marysville firefighter in 1994 and he was hired full-time in 1997. He is currently president of the Marysville Professional Firefighters Local 3219 and has held that position since 2001.

The department also announced the promotion of Martin McFalls to the position of Assistant Chief. McFalls became a volunteer firefighter in 1988, and was hired full-time in 1990. McFalls was a charter member/team coordinator for the Technical Rescue Team which began in 1997, the same year he was promoted to company officer. He earned a promotion to Battalion Chief in 2004. McFalls was recognized by Marysville Fire District as Chief Officer of the year for the year 2007. He holds an Associate of Technical Arts in Fire Command, Bachelor of Science in Fire Services Administration and is set to finish the Executive Fire Officer Program from the National Fire Academy.
