It's the kind of news story no one wants to report, especially when it happens close to home.
Shots fired on board an AMTRAK passenger train.
On March 17, local emergency responders will have a chance to test their skills in handling such a crisis situation during a mock mass casualty incident in Stanwood.
In the staged scenario, the shootings will take place on two AMTRAK passenger training cars at 8600 Cedarhome Dr. in Stanwood, said North County Fire/EMS Battalion Chief Christian Davis. The local fire agency is partnering with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and AMTRAK for the mock incident.
Other agencies planning to be involved include the Stanwood Police Department, Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, Marysville Fire District, Conway Fire Department, Stanwood Fire Department and Silvana Fire District 19.
"This intense training exercise is to ensure that our emergency personnel are prepared to respond to the needs of the Stanwood AMTRAK Station that is scheduled for completion later this year," Davis said.
