Rural residents of Snohomish, Whatcom, Island and Skagit counties may be eligible for low-interest federal loans and grants to repair damage caused by last December's winter storms.
"We have money available to help income-eligible homeowners, especially seniors, recover from the storm damage," said Jon DeVaney, Washington State director of USDA Rural Development. "Residents can contact the closest Rural Development office to determine if they qualify."
The funding is made available under the federal agency's Home Improvement Loan and Grant program, which provides a 1 percent loan for home repairs to income-eligible homeowners who are unable to secure other financing. Those aged 62 and older may be eligible for grants in addition to the low-interest loans.
For additional information, interested rural Washington homeowners are encouraged to visit the agency on the web at www.rurdev.usda.gov/wa or call the local office at (360) 428-4322 ext. 4.
