County seeks advocates for vulnerable adults
Volunteers are needed to help protect the rights of vulnerable adults living in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and adult family homes throughout Snohomish County.
The Snohomish County Long Term Care Ombudsman Program will offer a free four-day training session on February 17, 18, 24 and 25 for new volunteer advocates. Certified ombudsmen serve as advocates, educators, investigators and problem-solvers on behalf of residents of long-term care facilities. The program is part of a statewide initiative to protect vulnerable residents and ensure high-quality and compassionate care.
Ombudsmen are asked to spend an average of four hours a week with the program. While a salary is not provided, certain expenses, such as mileage, are reimbursable.
Volunteer ombudsmen come from all walks of life, various age groups and educational levels. The common thread is a passion for older adults and persons with disabilities.
To apply for the program, contact Michal Glauner at (425) 388-7393, or e-mail michal.glauner@snoco.org. Applications for the February training must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 3.
