Food Bank announces holiday schedule
To efficiently serve its clients, the Marysville Food Bank has set up special distribution days and times for the holidays.
Christmas food baskets will be distributed on Saturday, December 20, Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23. Regular Saturday clients should plan to visit the Food Bank December 20, while Tuesday clients will be served Monday and Tuesday.
"We really hope to avoid long lines, and asking people to wait in possibly cold or wet weather," said food bank director Joyce Zeigen. "By coming at their reserved day and time, we can ensure everyone is taken care of quickly."
On all the basket distribution days, registered clients are served alphabetically. On December 20, those with last names beginning with A-I will be seen from 9 to 10 a.m.; J-R from 10 to 11 a.m.; and S-Z from 11 a.m. to noon.
Monday, December 22 the schedule calls for those with last names beginning with A-E from 9 to 10 a.m.; F-I from 10 to 11 a.m.; and J-M from 11 a.m. to noon. Tuesday clients' distribution continues December 23 with N-Q from 9 to 10 a.m.; R-U from 10 to 11 a.m. and V-Z from 11 a.m. to noon.
New food bank clients will be registered beginning at noon each day.
The Marysville Food Bank, in partnership with Operation Marysville Community Christmas, will also handle the distribution of Christmas gifts for local families beginning on December 18 and continuing through Dec. 20. Contact the food bank at (360) 658-1054 for times and location.
The community service organization will begin moving into its new building on 88th Street, behind St. Anne's Church, on December 24. During the move, from Dec. 24 through January 5, the facility will be closed for distribution.
"The ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house are scheduled for 1 p.m. on January 5, 2009," said Zeigen. "We hope the community will come see the new building and help us celebrate its completion."
Beginning January 6, new distribution hours for the food bank will be Tuesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m.
