Activist announces run for Koster's council seat

Ellen Hiatt WatsonEllen Hiatt Watson has announced her candidacy for Snohomish County Council District 1, and will be opposing John Koster in the 2009 elections.

“I have had many opportunities to work with John and, while he’s been open to hearing our concerns, I have definitely been frustrated.  His district’s residents are asking for action,” said Watson. “We need someone who will take a leadership role in reducing sprawl and solving the traffic problems that plague us, while ensuring the health and safety needs of the community are met.”

Watson declared her candidacy September 13 at the Stanwood Democrats rally. She is a 1983 Stanwood High School graduate, and received a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications and Political Science, consequently working as a journalist for ten years. She is currently a marketing consultant, and has been the force behind 7-Lakes, a nonprofit grassroots organization which is working to prevent sprawl and educate citizens about involvement in land-use planning issues.
