City planners outline traffic plan
The City of Marysville held a public hearing Tuesday, September 9, to gather comments and suggestions regarding its long-term transportation plans.
Traffic planners have considered the city’s anticipated growth through the year 2035 in prioritizing projects and predicting funding sources.
Some of the major plans are expected to include widening 88th Street NE to four or five lanes and extending the corridor to connect to 84th Street NE at SR9, adding a new principal arterial at 156th/152nd Street from I-5 to 67th Avenue NE, and creating a downtown bypass route.
Other projects under discussion including an extension of 116th Street NE, completing 51st Avenue NE between 88th Street and 80th Street, and extending 80th Street east to 60th Avenue NE.
Funding for the projects, which are estimated to cost $615 million between now and 2035, will come from a variety of sources, including municipal bonds, developer mitigation fees, grants and sales tax revenue.
The city’s comprehensive plan also addresses the need for pedestrian and bicycle access, public transit requirements, and road improvements, including the addition of signals and turn lanes, at numerous intersections.
The planning department will offer additional opportunities for public comments, according to city spokesperson Doug Buell.
