Tulalip hosts Coast Salish Gathering

Northwest tribal leaders and representatives of environmental agencies gather yearly in a shared effort to identify environmental concerns, issues and projects in the Coast Salish region. This year’s event, February 27- 29, is hosted by the Tulalip Tribes.

The Coast Salish region includes the Puget Sound, Canada’s Georgia Basin and the Straits of Juan de Fuca.

The Coast Salish Gathering provides the opportunity for tribal leaders and First Nation chiefs, the Environmental Protection Agency and Environment Canada to build a collaborative body to work together to solve environmental issues facing tribal homelands. The policy dialogue brings major environmental issues to the attention of government officials, exposing non-natives to the values, traditions and knowledge of tribal culture. The resulting policies impact ongoing habitat restoration and environmental management efforts.
