The skies were appropriately somber for Memorial Day activities Monday, May 28, but luckily the rain held off while locals took time out to remember the sacrifices made by others.

About 300 people, young and old alike, gathered at the Marysville Cemetery for a ceremony that included patriotic song selections performed by the Marysville-Pilchuck High School Band, a presentation of colors by the M-PHS NJROTC, and a 21-gun salute presented by American Legion Post #178 of Marysville.

American Legion commander Kenneth Cage spoke eloquently of the sacrifices by those who gave all, and the responsibilities we each bear to honor that sacrifice.

With a parade of U.S. flags serving as a vivid backdrop, families walked among the cemetery markers to find veterans' final resting places and place flowers and flags.
