In a letter to the editor earlier this month, Cheryl Deckard (this year's Grand Marshal) issued a challenge to the community... for the "Spirit of Strawberry Festival," past and present, to take over and rule the city for the next two months.
Board members and volunteers have been hard at work preparing a fantastic event for the community. Now is your turn to help and get into that "Spirit of Strawberry Festival" that Cheryl talked about.
The first thing you can do to help us is to "like" our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/MarysvilleStrawberryFestival, and share the link with your friends and family. Post your favorite pictures on our page or write a comment about your favorite memory or event. You can also visit our new website, www.maryfest.org. Our website will feature up-to-date stories and a calendar showing what events or parades you can find us at.
You can purchase the 2012 pins and T-shirts, which will be available in local stores like Carr's Hardware, Hilton Pharmacy and Whidbey Island Bank in April. Wear them proudly and be sure to tell your family, friends and even strangers how much fun you have at the festival! You can even become a "Friend of the Festival" by signing up to be a member. Membership doesn't mean you have to volunteer (although you can if you'd like), it's about supporting a festival that's been a community tradition since 1932.
If you're a local business owner, you can show your support by placing our counter cards and posters in your business, decorating your windows to show your support, or allowing us to sell our pins and shirts in your business. As a business owner you too can become a member or even a sponsor. You can have a team in the Trike Race and challenge other local businesses. You can even buy a table at our Fashion Show. Or maybe you would like our Royal Court to stop by a special event or promotion you are having at your store? Just give us a call at 360-659-7764, we would love to talk to you.
So what do you say, Marysville? Let's paint the town red and show our "Spirit of Strawberry Festival!"
