Last Thanksgiving, Char Pike of Marysville spent the day serving meals at the Everett Salvation Army, along with her cousin Marilyn Boe, manager of the Marysville branch of HomeStreet Bank. With her 61st birthday looming, Pike told her family that the gift she wanted most was their help in giving to others.
Along with Boe, several friends and family members-including seven grandchildren-stepped up to make the birthday wish come true.
On March 29, Pike and her team of helpers cooked and served dinner at the Salvation Army for nearly 100 people. In addition to a meal of baked ham, scalloped potatoes and fresh rolls, she provided sack lunches for the following day.
The experience was a positive one for Pike, who works as the director of nurses at Providence Regional Medical Center's transitional care unit, and for her family members. In fact, they are already planning another dinner.
