Last year, 2,231 Snohomish County working families had their taxes prepared for free at a United Way Tax Preparation Site, including 218 Marysville families, saving an estimated $368,000 in tax preparation fees.
Approximately 84 percent of filers received an average refund of $2,189 for a total of more than $4.1 million (including $1.1 million in Earned Income Tax Credits).
Ron Foss of Marysville works at the Tulalip Resort Casino, and again this year he will be volunteering to help people prepare their basic tax returns.
"I volunteer because I enjoy helping working families keep more of what they earn," said Foss. "It's a great feeling to know that you've helped people receive these tax refunds knowing that they truly need it, especially when the refund is larger than they expected."
The Marysville tax site is located at Totem Middle School, 1605-7th Street NE. Hours of operation are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This free tax assistance is available for households earning $50,000 or less.
Although no appointment is necessary, people should bring a picture ID; social security card or tax identification number for everyone on the return; W2s or other income statements from all employers, and any 1099 forms. Preparers may also require the name, address and tax ID number for your child care provider; records of student loan payments; record of payments for educational expenses such as college tuition; mortgage interest and property tax statements; a bank account number to receive your refund via direct deposit; and last year's tax return if you have it.
If you're filing jointly, both spouses must be present to file electronically.
