The annual Father-Daughter Valentine Dance is a sweet spectacle-little girls in frilly dresses, proud dads sporting new haircuts and their best suits. For a few hours on those Saturday evenings in February, the cafeteria at Cedarcrest Middle School becomes a magical place filled with swirling taffeta, silly dances and lots of giggles.

But every year, some expectant couples are turned away from the door. Because of security issues, pre-registration is required; no tickets are sold at the event. Registration for this year's dance dates is open now, so it's time to act.

Dances are scheduled for Saturdays, Feb. 4 and 11, with sessions beginning at 5:30 and 7:30 both evenings. The price is $20 per couple, plus $5 for each additional daughter, which includes music, dancing, refreshments and door prizes, plus a commemorative 5x7 professional photo.

Dads can register online at www.marysvillewa.gov, or in person at the Marysville Parks and Recreation office at Jennings Park, 6915 Armar Rd. The events always sell out, so it's wise to act quickly.

The dance is organized by the Marysville Parks and Recreation Department, with sponsorship by HomeStreet Bank, the Marysville Kiwanis Club, Clear Image Portrait Studio, Golden Corral, Mosaic Insurance Alliance, and Bob's Burgers and Brews.
