September is National Preparedness Month, designed to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.
Fred Meyer stores and American Red Cross volunteers are partnering in a month-long "Buy a Virtual Blanket" campaign to raise awareness and funds to prepare for and respond to local emergencies and disaster relief efforts.
On Saturdays throughout the campaign, Sept. 11-Oct. 2, Red Cross volunteers will be at Fred Meyer stores in Bothell, Everett, Lynnwood, Marysville, Mill Creek, Monroe and Snohomish to greet customers, distribute disaster preparedness checklists and donation cards which can be scanned at checkouts.
Local community service groups and individuals can help by signing up for a four-hour shift at a nearby store. Grab your friends, family, co-workers, church or club members and make a difference. For more information, go to www.BuyABlanket.org or call Volunteer Coordinator Diana Schmid, Snohomish County Chapter, American Red Cross, at (425) 740-2327.
