Marysville Parks and Recreation will bring local big rigs to Totem Middle School on Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the annual Touch A Truck event.
Children will be able to sit in police cars, construction vehicles, fire trucks and other service vehicles, and public workers will be there to teach community members about their jobs and how the vehicles are used.
A designated no-honking period for those who prefer less noise will occur between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., but before noon, children can honk horns and set off sirens.
Touch a Truck is a free event that includes activities including crafts, the Rotary Club train and a bouncy house, provided by Kiwanis, Marysville Noon Rotary Club and Campfire USA. Marysville Kids Matter will also be present with books about trucks for children and refreshments may be purchased from the Kiwanis.
Approximately 3,000 people are expected to attend Touch A Truck, and Marysville Parks and Recreation is looking forward to hosting the event.
"Touch A Truck didn't happen last year because of the economy," said Andrea Kingsford, recreational coordinator for Marysville Parks and Recreation. "We feel very fortunate and are proud to have it back."
Kingsford also said Marysville Parks and Recreation is honored to be hosting a community event on the anniversary of September 11.
A school bus and a search and rescue vehicle will be new to Touch A Truck this year, and people of all ages are welcome to come and learn about these and other Marysville big rigs.
"This is definitely a family event," Kingsford said. "People bring aunts and uncles and cousins, and we're excited to see everyone at Touch A Truck."
