The Pilchuck Audubon Society's September 10 program topic is "Crow Planet: Essential Wisdom from the Urban Wilderness" featuring Lyanda Lynn Haupt, author of a book by the same name. The 7 p.m. meeting will be held in conjunction with the Puget Sound Birdfest in Edmonds at the Plaza Room above the Edmonds Public Library, 650 Main Street, Edmonds.

Haupt is an author, speaker, naturalist, and "urban homesteader" based in Seattle. Her first book, "Rare Encounters with Ordinary Birds" (Sasquatch, 2001), explores the relationship between humans, birds, and ecological understanding, and is a winner of the 2002 Washington State Book Award.

Her second book, "Pilgrim on the Great Bird Continent: The Importance of Everything and Other Lessons from Darwin's Lost Notebooks" (Little, Brown 2006) has received nationwide acclaim, resonating with audiences interested in natural history, Darwin, birds, and their intersection.
