The popular Senior Picnic, held annually for the past 13 years, was a sell-out success as hundreds enjoyed the summer weather at Marysville's Comeford Park on August 10.
Staffed by volunteers and benefiting from generous community donations, the annual event is organized by the Marysville Parks and Recreation Department.
Local residents Harry and Miko Winder provided the salmon, which was grilled to perfection by retired mayor Dennis Kendall, parks director Jim Ballew and volunteer Jim Mizell. Also on the menu was fried chicken, potato salad, tossed green salad, rolls and dessert. Altogether the team served 120 pounds of salmon and 400 pieces of chicken. Leftovers were loaded into to-go boxes and distributed to the picnickers.
Staff members from HomeStreet Bank, celebrating their ninth year of involvement with the community event, were on hand to help serve the seniors, along with Lakewood High School soccer and volleyball team members.
"We're so glad the weather cleared up," said Jeanne Ingersoll as she waited patiently for her lunch plate. "This is something we always look forward to."
Event supporters included the City of Marysville, Harry and Miko Winder, HomeStreet Bank, Alpine Mortgage, Grandview Village, Merrill Gardens, Emerald Hills Coffee, Marysville Care Center, All About Care, Cascade Companion Care, GenCare at the Village, Richard Curnow of Sensible Retirement, and Senior Services of Snohomish County.
