The Pilchuck Audubon Society received a "Together Green" grant in 2009 for educational purposes, and part of the grant will be used to construct a kiosk on the grounds of Frank Wagner Elementary School in Monroe to increase the public's knowledge of the importance of the Vaux's Swifts.

Each spring and fall, between 130,000 and 210,000 Vaux's Swifts visit Monroe during their migration, the second largest known concentration of the birds in North America.

The Together Green Grant Kiosk Committee will meet to discuss the design and content of the kiosk on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Goddard Room at Valley General Hospital, 14701-179th Ave. SE, Monroe. Attendance and input from interested residents is appreciated.

The next scheduled meeting of the society is set for Friday, February 12, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Everett Firefighters Hall, 2411 Hewitt Avenue.

Chrys Berlotto of the WSU Shore Stewards and Beach Watchers will lead a presentation on "The Salish Sea: A Tour of the Place and Its Health." The inland waters of Washington and British Columbia, including Puget Sound, the Strait of Georgia and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, were recently given the name the Salish Sea.

Also at the Feb. 12 meeting, Kerry Marl will present a slideshow on shorebird identification to help prepare for spring migrations.

Members and the public are encouraged to attend. For information, go to www.pilchuckaudubon.org or phone (425) 252-0926.
