Thanks to generous donors and community food drives, the Marysville Food Bank distributed 30,000 pounds more food in November than at the same time last year.
"Dozens of volunteers worked long hours packing Thanksgiving boxes, organizing distribution and handing out food," said food bank director Joyce Zeigen.
Christmas boxes will be distributed to pre-registered clients beginning Friday, December 18. Volunteers are needed on distribution days, December 18, 21 and 22, and the food bank is also asking for donations of grocery bags.
"We need plastic grocery bags, paper bags or reusable grocery totes," said Zeigen.
OMCC also operates a holiday Toy Store to serve local families. Bonnie Ramsey, a community volunteer who works for the toy store project, reported that "an extreme amount of stuffed animals has poured in," but the store needs donations of warm coats, hats and scarves, along with toys for all ages.
"Look for the red OMCC barrels all over town for donations," said Ramsey.
The Marysville Community Food Bank is located at 4150-88th Street NE, behind the Church of St. Mary's. Clients are eligible to visit the food bank twice during the month, in addition to the special Christmas distribution.
"The center will be closed from December 23 through January 1," Zeigen reminded, "so it's important for clients to visit us before December 23."
